CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDIT GUIDELINES

It is the responsibility of each CLI to submit a Report of Compliance (ROC), with documentation proof attached, to the Continuing Education (CE) Chairperson showing a minimum of FIFTY (50) Continuing Education Credit Hours(CEH), earned during each THREE(3) YEAR period following achievement of the Certified Legal Investigator designation, and attendance at at least ONE NALI seminar. After a CLI has initially completed two (2) consecutive three year compliance periods of 50 hours all future compliance periods shall require 36 hours of continuing education.

INVESTIGATIVE SEMINARS:

There is standing approval for: NALI National and Mid-Winter Conventions, Regional seminars; local, state, and national bar association seminars wherein attorneys earn continuing education credits; seminars by all state investigator associations such as the Texas Association of Licensed Investigators. NALI officers and convention/seminar personnel in attendance at NALI conventions/seminars, but who are prevented from attending NALI sessions because of URGENT NALI business will receive full credit for the missed sessions. Pre-approval is required for all other seminars whose subject matter is appropriate to the legal investigator.

ATTENDANCE: 1 CE Hour for each hour attended.

LECTURING: 4 CE Hours per presentation of 1 hour or more.

VIDEO TAPES: 1 CE Hour for each hour of viewing videos of NALI seminar sessions. (Copy of transmittal papers between CLI and NALI video library will suffice as documentation).

COMPUTER SEMINARS:

One CE Hour of credit for each hour of attended seminar sessions hosted by computer information sources such as CDB-Infotek, which already has standing approval, for the purpose of continuing computer source education; and any other pre-approved computer information source SEMINAR whose subject matter is continuing computer source education. A letter from the host on the host's stationary to the NALI CEC Chairperson certifying attendance will suffice as documentation. SEMINARS ON HOW TO OPERATE COMPUTERS WILL NOT BE APPROVED FOR CREDITS; NOR WILL CREDIT BE GRANTED FOR TALKING TO VENDORS AT NON-COMPUTER INFORMATION SOURCE EDUCATION CONFERENCES AND SEMINARS, SUCH AS NALI CONVENTIONS AND SEMINARS.

EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS:

Any ACCREDITED educational institution's CRIMINAL JUSTICE COURSE or ACCIDENT RECONSTRUCTION COURSE, which already have standing approval, and any other pre-approved course whose subject matter is appropriate to the legal investigator.

ATTENDANCE: 16 CE Hours for each 3 unit course passed.
(Limit of 32 CE Hours per 3 year reporting period)

TEACHING: 16 CE Hours for each semester course taught.
(Limit of 32 CE Hours per 3 year reporting period)

GUEST LECTURE: 4 CE Hours per presentation, 1 hour or more.

CORRESPONDENCE COURSES:

Any accredited or recognized educational institution's pre-approved course whose subject matter is appropriate to the legal investigator.

4 CE Hours for each completed and passed course.
(Limit of 8 CE Hours pr 3 year reporting period)

NON-NALI CERTIFICATIONS:

4 CE Hours for each non-NALI pre-approved certification in an investigative field, such as fraud or fire investigation accreditation - which are already pre-approved.

PUBLICATIONS:

ARTICLES:

6 CE Hours for each 1,000 word or more typewritten article published in The Legal Investigator.

4 CE Hours to each of three annual Editor-Publisher Award recipients for outstanding articles.

Typewritten articles of 1,000 words or more submitted to The Legal Investigator but not printed MAY still be considered for DISCRETIONARY credit by forwarding four (4) copies to the Continuing Education Chairperson for Committee review and possible acceptance.

6 CE Hours for each 1,000 word or more investigation related article published in any recognized national or regional investigative or legal magazine.

4 CE Hours to the recipient of any national or regional award for an outstanding investigation related article published in a recognized non-NALI national or regional investigative or legal magazine.

NOTE: In-house organs are NOT recognized as national or regional magazines.

BOOKS:

24 CE Hours for writing, or co-writing, a full length published book on a subject(s) appropriate to legal investigation.

8 CE Hours for updating and re-publishing an existing full length published book on a subject(s) appropriate to legal investigation.

8 CE Hours credit for writing a single chapter of a full length published book on a subject(s) appropriate to legal investigation.

TELEVISION AND RADIO APPEARANCES:

4 CE Hours for each half hour appearance on a pre-approved television or radio program wherein investigative subjects are TAUGHT. Merely appearing on or participating in a show does not qualify. The program MUST qualify as an EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM. A letter from a senior representative or the show's host on the station's letterhead will suffice as proper documentation.

CLI TEST ASSISTANCE:

These credits MUST be recommended to the Continuing Education Chairperson by the Certified Legal Investigator Chairperson.

QUESTIONS AND SCENARIOS:

4 CE Hours credit in the category of 10 True/False, multiple choice, matching, or fill-in-the-blank questions accepted.

4 CE Hours credit in the category of 5 essay questions accepted.

6 CE Hours credit in the category of each complete oral test scenario accepted.
(Limit of 12 CE Hours per category per reporting period)

TEST PARTICIPATION:

1 CE Hour for each hour of SIGNIFICANT participation in the CLI testing program as certified and recommended to the Continuing Education Chairperson by the Certified Legal Investigator Chairperson.

Continuing Education Credits (CEC) are mandatory for Certified Legal Investigators. Reports of Compliance (ROC) must be sent every 3 years from the year a CLI designation is earned. Please check the CLI Active Roster for your complaince year. It is a CLI's responsibility to file their ROC by December 31 of their compliance year or risk suspension and/or revocation of the CLI designation. It is a CLI's responsibility to notify the CLI and the CEC Chairperson of a change in their contact information and not rely upon other departments or entities in NALI to notify of this change.
